Tom White’s
doctor suggested he take up bicycling for exercise 10
years ago. White couldn’t jog because of his football
knee problems, so biking was his alternative. He enjoyed
bicycling, but found the traditional seats very uncomfortable.
White also recognized that there were several health problems
related to bicycle riding. Traditional seats, with their
saddle horn, cause blood circulation to be cut off to
the genitalia or pubic areas, which causes pain and may
lead to sexual dysfunction. The horn on conventional saddle-style
seats forces riders to support themselves on soft tissue
and tender organs not intended to carry the weight of
the body.
White decided his mission was to create a comfortable
bicycle seat that would alleviate many of these health
problems. “Initially I developed ‘The SEAT’
to ease the pain I experienced while bike riding. I figured
if I was dissatisfied, others must be too.” After
10 years of research and development, he has patented
a new comfortable, ergonomic design for “The SEAT.”
